They tried hard, but they didn’t get this one quite right.
I thought this case would be great when I got a digital camera, but the truth is that it’s not really the right size so it’s too much bother to use it except on trips.
It has many of the things I like... lots of pockets and zippers and options. Overall the case is about 4" x 6" by 2.5" deep. It is made of black ripstop cordura nylon. It has a belt strap and a shoulder strap which will clip on or off. The case is nicely padded and offers good protection for a camera.
The largest pocket is toward the back and is the full size of the case. Working forward toward the front, next there is a mesh pocket. The flap that covers this is attached at the bottom of the case and zips down from both sides to lie flat. There is a tiny zip pocket on the inside surface of this flap. Then there is another flap that folds down from the top over this. It also has a zip pocket on the outside (front of the case). A clip buckle holds this top flap down securely.
I like the fact that I can keep a pencil and tiny pad of paper with the camera. A standard 3"x5" memo pad will fit in either the big section (but I don’t want the spiral wire to scratch the camera) or in the middle pocket. The small pockets mean that I could slip a little cash or a key or some other trinket in the case too.
But the one thing that results in my never using it is that the main compartment is difficult to get into. After I slip my camera in to the bag, it is very difficult to get out in a hurry. Most digitals are more like 2.5" x 3.5" and that is small enough that even with my small hands it’s hard to reach in and grab the camera. If the large pocket opened up a little wider this wouldn’t be an issue. I hate to turn the case over and shake the camera out, because I’d be sure to drop it.
I’ve tried putting the camera in the section that zips open flat, but a couple of times I’ve found that the weight of the camera was making the zipper work down, so I’m afraid I’ll lose it out the side if I do that very much.
So... if you have something to protect that is just a little bigger than a standard digital camera I think this bag would be really nifty.
What a frustrating thing this is Sharkbytes. Here you have this wonderfully inexpensive bag, with lots of little pockets and stashy places, but it is impossible to use safely for the item it is meant for. Go figure!!!!
We have the very same camera case! I got it too because of all of the fun pockets & fortunately, we haven't had a problem with it. I do understand what you say about the camera being a tight fit-just don't break your camera girlfriend!!! I appreciate your honest review & hope you find another camera case!
The picture of your Samsonite Camera Case looks really cute! The $5 price tag is right too, but... unfortunately it just does not work out with your camera. I am not sure what your camera looks like but my digital is on the larger size of the digitals and this might work for me as I am looking for something small. Thanks for the review!
Great review, thanks for the information. I really like the style of the case but think I would have the same problem you did. I am going to keep looking!
We are currently looking for a case for out new camera. Your review gave me lots of things I should and should not look for in my search that I have not thought of before. Thanks for the great info.
Well it sounded like this camera case was the perfect one until you said your camera tends to get stuck! I can just picture you turning the case upside down and shaking it violently trying to get the camera out! I love the idea of all the pockets, too bad the main camera one isn't very wide. Good review.
I had a camera bag very similar to this one you are describing, it might have even been the same one. But I had the same problem with the main compartment being too small and tight for the camera. I ended up getting a different camera bag, one that was a bit bigger.
i too have a casing like yours but it is of sony's brand, bought and never bring it when travelling cos in the end i prefer a smooth bag, less bulky too.voted
I have a cute little camera case and I never use it either! I ended up using something that I got as a cosmetic case with a purse I bought. It works perfectly!

Well the price is right but it does not matter if you don't use it :0)

Toobad that it isn't just a hair bigger. Looks like a nice little case. Good review!
